About Us

N estling in the bank of the A34 on the Levenshulme and Burnage border – Acorn Close Allotment and Field is a small, friendly Manchester City Council site promoting organic, wildlife friendly gardening for fruit & vegetable growing.

The surround field is overlooked by a wooden carved ‘Rod Fox’ made from ethically sourced English Oak from the Forest of Dean sculptured by Phil Bews.

Open stretch of the Cringle Brook runs through the site which is regularly visited by numerous birds including Heron, Drake, Mallard, Wagtails other visitors include Sparrowhawk, Jay, Woodpecker also other garden birds. The site is also a haven for wildlife with Foxes, Hedgehogs and Bats.

A small Orchard of mixed fruit trees is sited on the bank of the brook and a native hedge borders the A34 (Kingsway).

The Committee

T he Committee is a small core group of plotholders who run the site supported by Manchester City Council, the group includes Community Guardians, Tree Warden scheme, and members from other local community groups.

Campaigners and supporters for local and national environmental charities/social enterpises.

The Little Green Hub

Environmental projects

Bulb/Wildflower, Tree/Hedge planting. Local school visits. Working with local residents to enhance the environment. Promoting health & well being.

Recent projects

Supplying wildflower seeds to the community for planting in gardens/allotments/tree pit/parks & greenspaces. Tree & Hedge saplings for planting in allotments & parks.

Helping local residents to achieve ‘Jubilee Street Trees’ acting as a host bank account.

Arranging growing workshops, wood carving & biodiversity events. Community Open Days.

The Wildlife

A corn Close Allotment Society are committed to support the wildlife on both the allotments and surrounding field. Promoting wildlife friendly gardening, planting native species of wildflowers/herbs hedges and trees.

Providing homes for our wildlife – birds/bat boxes, bug hotels, hedgehog homes, green roofs etc.  Our site is a haven for wildlife which we are more than happy to help accommodate and enjoy.
